Yes they are one in the same. Texas law and many courts refer to driver safety courses, but most of the general population know them as defensive driving courses.
Yes. Our Texas defensive driving course is approved by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), course provider number CP-090—and TDLR approval is what makes it acceptable by all Texas courts for ticket dismissal. If your court has any special instructions, follow those when you submit your certificate.
Eligibility is decided by the court, not by us. First, tell the court you intend to take a defensive driving (driver safety) course, pay any required court fee, and get permission to complete it—courts typically allow about 90 days to finish and submit your certificate. If you took a course for another ticket in the past 12 months, that may affect your eligibility, but not always. You also do not need a Texas driver license: Texas courts often give out-of-state drivers permission so the ticket stays off their home state driving record.
Our Texas defensive driving online course is $25. This is the lowest price allowed by State Law. No state approved course provider may offer a course for a ticket at less than $25. Your completion certificate is included free and available as an instant PDF download the moment you finish.
The course takes six hours to complete, which is required by Texas Law. Each page in the course has a timer that is set based on the amount of text or video on the page. However, keep in mind that our online course provides you with the flexibility to log in and out as your schedule allows and your progress is automatically saved. So you don’t have to take the course all in one sitting.
Immediately. As soon as you complete and pass the course, your certificate is prepared as a PDF you can download, print, or save — there is nothing to wait for and no extra charge.
You then turn it in to the court, your insurance company, or your employer, depending on why you took the course.
No. There is no final exam or test. However, there are short multiple choice quizzes at the end of each unit. You get three attempts to get a passing score (70%) per unit quiz.
You can fail the course by missing identity validation questions or by not passing the unit quizzes. If that happens, state rules require you to start the course over—but we don't require you to pay again.
Many Texas insurance companies offer a discount to drivers who voluntarily complete a state approved defensive driving course. Check with your insurance provider—your completion certificate is usually all they need.
Yes! When you go through the course registration process you will have the opportunity to request that we order a certified 3A copy of your Texas Driving Record ($19.95). You will also have the option at the conclusion of the course.
Your record is emailed to you within one business day of completing the course—typically sooner. We process driving records at 10AM, 1PM, and 4PM CST each business day.
Our customer support agents are ready to assist you. Call 800-558-9887 or send us a message through the contact page and we will get you back on track.
Drug and Alcohol Awareness Programs require prior court approval. Courts may accept our online course for minors convicted or placed on deferred disposition for alcohol related offenses such as Attempt to Purchase Alcohol by a Minor, Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor, and Possession of Alcohol by a Minor (MIP). Since every case is unique, contact the court to verify acceptance prior to registration.
The short answer is maybe. Many judges and courts across Texas accept our alcohol and drug awareness program (DADAP) for specific alcohol and/or drug offenses. For this reason, if you did not get our site information from the court, then we recommend that you contact the court to verify your requirements prior to registration.
Typically not. Most courts will require a 12 hour classroom only DWI course offered by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). However each case is unique, so if you would like to take our online course we recommend contacting the court to verify your requirements prior to registration.
As soon as you complete and pass the course, your certificate of completion is prepared as a PDF you can download, print, or save right away — there is nothing to wait for.
The certificate must be turned in to the court if you are taking the course for a citation, or to your insurance company if you are taking it for an insurance discount.
Our course is six hours in length.
Each state has their own laws and regulations that mandate what is required based on the specifics of each case. If you think our course might be considered by the court or if you are not a resident of the state where you received your citation and our online course might fit your needs, we recommend contacting the court to determine if they would accept our course prior to registration.
Yes. Our Adult Driver Education course is approved by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) and is delivered on our TicketSchool course platform. It also counts as your Texas DPS written knowledge exam.
Texas first-time driver license applicants ages 18 through 24 must complete an approved six-hour adult driver education course. The requirement generally does not apply if you are 25 or older or if you surrender a valid, unexpired driver license from another state or country.
The state-required adult driver education course contains six hours of instruction. Because it is online, you can log in and out and complete it around your schedule.
No. Pass the 30-question multiple choice final exam with a score of at least 70%. This counts as your state knowledge exams (road signs and traffic laws). You will still need to meet the other licensing requirements and pass the driving skills test.
Impact Texas Adult Drivers (ITAD) is a free, one-hour video program required before the driving skills test. Complete it after your adult driver education course and within 90 days of your scheduled skills test.
Texas DPS requires your course completion certificate, your current Impact Texas Adult Drivers (ITAD) certificate if you are taking the driving test, and documents proving identity, U.S. citizenship or lawful presence, Texas residency, and Social Security number. Check the DPS document checklist before your appointment because requirements can change.
