Before you register
Got a Texas traffic ticket? You’re probably eligible.
Your court decides who may take a course to dismiss a ticket. These three checks cover what to settle before you register.
Your court has given permission
Tell the court you intend to take a defensive driving (driver safety) course, pay any required court fee, and get permission to complete it. Courts typically allow about 90 days to finish the course and turn in your certificate.
No course in the past 12 months
If you already took a course for another ticket within the last 12 months, it may affect your eligibility—but not always. Your court can confirm whether you can still take the course.
A Texas license isn't required
Drivers with a license from another state are often given permission by Texas courts to take the course, so the ticket doesn't end up on their home state driving record.

Lowest Price By Law
Our defensive driving course is only $25, which is the lowest price allowed by Texas law. That price includes the full state approved course and a free downloadable completion certificate—there are no hidden fees at checkout. You won't find a course in Texas for less. We guarantee it!
The course is completely compatible with tablets and smartphones, as well as any PC or Mac. Start a chapter on your computer at home, then pick up right where you left off from your phone—your progress is saved automatically every time you log out.
Numerous high definition videos and animated segments create an engaging educational experience that helps make you a safer driver. Short chapters and simple quizzes keep you moving, and you can review any section as often as you like.
The moment you complete the course, your certificate is prepared as a PDF you can download, print, or save. You then turn it in to the court, your insurance company, or your employer, depending on why you took the course.
Ticket dismissal is the reason most people register—but it isn’t the only benefit. Many Texas insurance companies offer a premium discount to drivers who voluntarily complete a state approved defensive driving course.
Your completion certificate is usually all your insurer needs. Ask your provider about their discount before you finish, and you could keep saving long after the ticket is behind you.
I’m taking the course for a ticket. Can I also get an insurance discount?
Yes, you get both. The TDLR ticket dismissal certificate comes with two parts: a ticket portion you turn in to the court, and an insurance portion you give to your insurer. One course, one certificate, both benefits.
Choose the course that fits your next step, then learn online at your own pace.

Texas drivers have trusted our state approved courses to help them become safer behind the wheel.
“This is far and away the best defensive driving course I have ever taken, in that I learned so much from the course itself. Totally thorough! Presented clearly! Easy to understand and remember!”
“It gave me a new awareness of potential hazards I had been so lax about after so many years of driving even after a ticket free driving record for over 65 years.”

Texas Defensive Driving FAQs
Common questions about our Texas defensive driving course.
Taking a different course? See our FAQs for every course. Still unsure about something? Our support team is happy to help—call 800-558-9887 or send us a message.
Am I eligible to dismiss my ticket with this course?
Eligibility is decided by the court, not by us. First, tell the court you intend to take a defensive driving (driver safety) course, pay any required court fee, and get permission to complete it—courts typically allow about 90 days to finish and submit your certificate. If you took a course for another ticket in the past 12 months, that may affect your eligibility, but not always. You also do not need a Texas driver license: Texas courts often give out-of-state drivers permission so the ticket stays off their home state driving record.
Will my court accept this course?
Yes. Our Texas defensive driving course is approved by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), course provider number CP-090—and TDLR approval is what makes it acceptable by all Texas courts for ticket dismissal. If your court has any special instructions, follow those when you submit your certificate.
How long does the course take?
The course is 6 hours, as required by the state of Texas. Because it is online and self-paced, you can spread those hours over as many sessions as you like—log in and out whenever it suits your schedule.
How much does the course cost?
Only $25, which is the lowest price allowed by Texas law. That includes the full state approved course and a free downloadable completion certificate—there are no hidden fees at checkout.
When do I get my certificate?
Immediately. As soon as you successfully complete the course, your certificate is prepared as a PDF you can download, print, or save. You then turn it in to the court, your insurance company, or your employer, depending on why you took the course.
Can this course lower my insurance premium?
Many Texas insurance companies offer a discount to drivers who voluntarily complete a state approved defensive driving course. Check with your insurance provider—your completion certificate is usually all they need.
What if I don't pass?
You can fail the course by missing identity validation questions or by not passing the unit quizzes. If that happens, state rules require you to start the course over—but we don't require you to pay again.
How do I get help if I need it?
Our customer support agents are ready to assist you. Call 800-558-9887 or send us a message through the contact page and we will get you back on track.
